JUDGE G. MARVIN BOBER JOINS JOB SAFETY COMMISSION

G. Marvin Bober becomes an Administrative Law Judge of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC) today, according to Chairman Stuart E. Weisberg. The Review Commission is an independent Federal agency that adjudicates disputes between employers and OSHA over work place safety and health violations.

Judge Bober leaves his ALJ position at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he has worked since October 1996, to serve at OSHRC's Washington, D.C. headquarters.  Before his SEC judgeship, he was an ALJ with the Social Security Administration's (SSA) Office of Hearings and Appeals in Tampa, Florida from October 1994 until October 1996, where he managed a monthly caseload of approximately 200 cases. Prior to his tenure at the SSA, Judge Bober served from April 1980 through October 1994 as a Judge with the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Administrative Law Judges.  While at Labor, he handled cases involving, among other issues, occupational disease and injury, whistleblowers and government contracts. From December 1980 until his departure from Labor, he was appointed Associate Chief Judge, and managed the largest adversarial occupational disease and injury program in the Federal system.  Judge Bober also served as an attorney at both the Interstate Commerce Commission and the Internal Revenue Service.

The Judge is a Maryland native.  He earned his undergraduate degree at Western Maryland College and his law degree at the University of Maryland School of Law.

Chairman Weisberg said that Judge Bober's "many years of experience as both an adjudicator and manager will serve the Review Commission well. I am particularly pleased to have him on board."
