Austal USA, LLC, (Austal) is a defense contractor engaged in the design and manufacture of ships. On August 3, 2015, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspected Austal’s facility in Mobile, Alabama, in response to an employee complaint about an unsafe hand tool, the “miller tool,” provided by Austal to its employees. As a result of this inspection, the Secretary issued a Citation and Notification of Penalty to Austal on January 20, 2016.
