ALJ Decision in United States Postal Service, OSHRC Docket No. 16-1713, Directed for Review

On June 13, 2016, a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service began to feel ill as he delivered mail on a route in San Antonio, Texas. He called a supervisor at Beacon Hill Station, the postal facility to which he was assigned, and told him he was too sick to continue his route. The supervisor instructed him to call 911, which the carrier did. Emergency medical technicians responded to his call and provided medical treatment. Beacon Hill Station supervisors also arrived at the site. The emergency medical technicians left, and a supervisor drove the employee back to the post office. The carrier completed paperwork related to the incident and left for the day. Later that evening, he went to an urgent care center, where he was treated with IV fluids and medication for his headache.
